Disabling after-effects
Eleven million die from it. France is not spared with 261,000 cases in 2019 and nearly 60,000 deaths. Survivors maintain an increased risk of death and often extremely disabling after-effects socially and professionally, such as amputations or cognitive disorders.
An uncontrolled immune response
Sepsis is a disease that occurs following an infection against which the immune response becomes uncontrolled. This inadequate inflammatory response causes tissue damage and organ failure that often results in death.
Each of us can be affected
Sepsis can affect any of us. However, people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. At any age of life, an infection, even initially benign, can degenerate into sepsis: dental abscess, meningitis, COVID-19, urinary tract infection, etc.
