Not sleeping last night can happen. It might be because you're anxious about an appointment tomorrow, because of a mistake you made during the day, or simply because you were out partying. Pulling an all-nighter should be an exception, but sometimes it's unavoidable. There are a few tricks to help you manage it and make it more bearable, both physically and mentally. Because even if you didn't sleep a wink, you have to summon your courage and let the workday pass before finally settling into your favorite pillow.
Here are some good tips to help you stay on track during this day that will drag on like any other.
First, breakfast: This is the perfect time to get your vitamins! So opt for slow-release carbohydrates and fruit. Whole-wheat toast, a bowl of cereal with one or two large glasses of multivitamin fruit juice—it's undoubtedly a winning combination.
Then take a nice shower, but again, remember to invigorate your body. Opt for lukewarm water (cooler than hot) to wake you up! Don't hesitate to vigorously rub yourself in after your shower, perhaps even to the rhythm of some uplifting music!
Off to the office! Remember to bring a bottle of water, as dehydration promotes lethargy, so drink, drink throughout the day! When commuting to work, try to take routes that allow you to get some fresh air. Aim for at least fifteen minutes of brisk walking. Physical activity releases endorphins, the famous feel-good hormones. In other words, the ones that give you energy... and a smile!
Also, during the day, whenever you feel tired, down, or mentally exhausted, take short breaks to get some fresh air. Fresh air is what stimulates your brain and gets it back on track. A brain that isn't ventilated is a brain that doesn't function properly.
At lunchtime, remember not to eat anything too heavy. Difficult-to-digest foods considerably tire your stomach and, by extension, your body, which struggles to function correctly when it isn't rested. The perfect meal after a sleepless night remains fish with vegetables and starches. All of this to recharge your batteries for the second half of the day.
The end of the day arrives. Funny, you don't feel tired anymore! But don't get your hopes up; you won't be going to the movies tonight, or even having drinks with friends. Because now it's time to think about going to bed to begin the process of recovering the hours of sleep lost last night.
As soon as you get home, you'll prepare yourself for a calm and relaxing evening. Forget about stimulants like coffee, tea, and tobacco. Also, forget about the famous hot bath, which, while relaxing, can also keep you awake because it raises your body temperature.
So, a quick shower, a light meal, and a good book, and whatever your age, you'll sleep like a baby.
